For most students, and especially those served by The Scholarship Foundation, financial aid and access to clear information determine their ability to pursue and complete a college education.
Director of Advocacy Karina Arango recently submitted written testimony to the Missouri House Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development in support of pending legislation, HB 265 and HB 442.
House Bill 265 proposes revisions to the state’s only need-based scholarship, Access Missouri. The bill aims to increase maximum annual grant amounts for state public two-year institutions to $1,700 and for public four-year institutions to $3,500, providing financial relief to students. The bill also updates terminology to match federal financial aid but does not sufficiently target grants towards students with the greatest financial need.
House Bill 442 seeks to establish the College Admission and Financial Aid Letter Consistency Task Force to develop a standard admission letter and a standard financial award letter to be used by all Missouri public colleges and universities. By simplifying critical information, Missouri can help students compare and ultimately make choices that align with their financial and academic goals.
