Gail & Larry Glenn Scholarship for Graduate Study in Education & Law

Both first-generation college graduates, Gail and Larry Glenn met when Gail was a freshman at the University of Missouri-Columbia. From then on, they were a team. Their partnership was guided by a conviction that as a team, they could accomplish their dreams. They went on to attain graduate degrees and fulfilling careers while raising their family. The Gail & Larry Glenn Scholarship for Graduate Study in Education & Law supports students pursuing graduate degrees in education or law – the fields that have given Gail and Larry’s lives great meaning and purpose.
After receiving a bachelor’s and then a master's in education, Gail recognized a need to know more about the human psyche. Education in psychoanalytic theory, then psychoanalysis, led her to a meaningful career as a psychoanalyst and then Dean of the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute.
Larry majored in accounting at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Feeling dissatisfied in the field, Larry yearned to find a different career path. Gail supported him as he pursued his law degree at Saint Louis University’s night program. He fell in love with law and built a successful legal practice.
Larry passed away in June 2022 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Gail, with help from family and friends, contributed to the launch of the Missouri chapter of the Parkinson’s Association and remains a staunch supporter of the organization. Larry’s life was so much more than his final chapter. His passions outside of law were limitless, as was his love of being with family. He enjoyed reading, writing, history, teaching, photography, jazz, and collecting. Gail wanted a way to recognize his lifelong commitment to education and the pride he took in his granddaughters’ college careers. The fulfillment they experienced because of access to education convinced Gail that a scholarship was the best solution. Through this scholarship, aspiring students will be able to pursue careers in the fields that have given Gail and Larry’s lives great meaning and purpose.
The endowment provides scholarship grants of up to $9,000 annually to students pursuing graduate degrees in the fields of education or law and who have received funding from The Scholarship Foundation as undergraduates within the last five years. These grants are renewable through graduation, provided the student is making satisfactory progress toward degree.
