Student Advising

The Scholarship Foundation’s Student Advising Program provides financial aid guidance and decision-making assistance to thousands of students and families per year.

Student Advisors work throughout the metropolitan St. Louis region at high schools and community agencies. Additionally, any student desiring support through the college and financial aid processes can contact a Student Advisor to schedule an appointment.

Advisors provide information and resources to support students’ informed decision-making and deliver one-on-one assistance with…

  • Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other financial aid forms
  • Navigating processes that come after FAFSA submission, including dependency overrides, verification, and financial aid appeals, also known as professional judgment reviews.
  • Applying for colleges
  • Submitting applications for The Scholarship Foundation’s scholarship grants and interest-free loans
  • Reviewing financial aid offer letters and counseling families on the basics of educational debt management.

Once students have begun their postsecondary education, Student Advisors work to ensure students receive support they may need to deal with difficult financial, academic, and personal challenges which can interfere with their studies.

The Three A's

The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis opens doors to higher education in three primary ways:

Awarding

Scholarship grants and interest-free loans are guaranteed to students awarded with the gap-closing funds necessary to afford higher education, putting graduation with minimal debt within reach for those who otherwise might not attend.

Advising

Our full-time advisors work with thousands of local students, parents, and community members seeking guidance on how to navigate a rapidly changing higher education landscape.

Advocacy

Founded upon the conviction that an educated society is essential to democracy, the Foundation is committed to policy and systems change that increase college access and affordability. Students accepted into the Foundation’s paid policy fellowship gain real-world experience creating policy and affecting change on college campuses and in the legislature.
