UI/UX Design Intern – Financial Empowerment Platform

Position Overview
We are seeking a creative and user-focused UI/UX Design Intern to support the design of MoneyByrd’s platform and educational content. The intern will help design intuitive, accessible, and visually engaging user experiences that make our platform easy to understand and navigate. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in utilizing design skills in an impact first environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to design and improve the MoneyByrd platform interface.
- Contribute to the layout and visual design of financial education content (web, mobile, and PDF formats).
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and design assets to test and communicate ideas.
- Support usability testing and feedback collection to improve user experience.
- Ensure accessibility, clarity, and consistency in design across products.
- Stay current on design best practices and user experience trends, particularly in financial and educational platforms.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in UI/UX design and human-centered design principles.
- Basic knowledge of design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar).
- Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging, and user-friendly designs.
- Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with an eye for accessibility and inclusivity.
- Previous coursework, portfolio work, or personal projects in design is a plus (but not required).

Intern

Host Organization: Kredit Academy
Location: Remote
Anticipated Internship Dates

The intern will support Kredit Academy’s marketing efforts by assisting with our social media strategy aimed at financial institutions and mission aligned organizations. The intern will help create, schedule, and post branded content across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter (X), and Threads. The focus will be on highlighting partner stories, promoting financial literacy, and elevating brand awareness in a mission-driven and community-focused tone. They will also help monitor engagement metrics and brainstorm creative campaigns that align with our broader sales and education initiatives.
Deliverables & Timeline
- Create and schedule weekly posts across 3+ platforms (ongoing for 10–12 weeks).
- Help organize and maintain a marketing content calendar (Week 1).
- Draft captions and visual ideas for 1–2 spotlight campaigns (by Week 2).
- Compile weekly reports summarizing reach, engagement, and recommendations for improvement (starting Week 3).
- Assist in launching a spring/summer campaign targeting credit unions and mission aligned organizations with success stories and testimonials (Weeks 4–10).
Work Environment
This internship is remote, with CEO making occasional trips to St. Louis. Weekly check-ins will occur via Zoom, and all tasks will be coordinated through project management tools like Slack and Google Drive.
Preferred Field of Study / Skill Set
- Preferred majors: Marketing, Communications, Business, or related fields.
- Skills: Social media writing, Canva or basic design tools, copywriting, content research, interest in financial wellness or fintech.

Financial Education Insight Intern
Host Organization: The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis
Internship Description: The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, a nonprofit organization founded in 1920, is based upon the conviction that an educated society is essential to a healthy democracy. The Scholarship Foundation provides access to postsecondary education to members of our community who otherwise would not have the financial means to fulfill their educational goals.
In accordance with our 2025-2028 strategic plan, the foundation aims to strengthen financial education and capacity among awarded students. The Scholarship Foundation is seeking two Financial Education Insight Interns to contribute their expertise and perspectives by identifying, evaluating, and providing feedback on financial literacy platforms. Interns will deliver a final report recommending the platform that best meets the needs of our students.
Urban Entrepreneurship Intern
Host Organization: Small Business Empowerment Center 
Internship Description: The Small Business Empowerment Center is a Nonprofit Organization sponsored by the Greater St. Louis Empowerment Zone. It serves as a “one-stop shop” to help urban entrepreneurs start and grow their own businesses.
The SBEC summer internship opportunity is an intensive introduction to the world of St. Louis startups, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Interns will apply insights from their academic experiences to real-world entrepreneurship experiences. Interns will work with SBEC staff to identify 10- 20 low-income individuals who would like to start a business. SBEC micro enterprise coaches will work with selected individuals over 5-6 months to assist with basic business planning and micro enterprise development. Each will be assessed on their entrepreneurial skill set using the SBEC’s Small Business Readiness Assessment.
Media Landscape Intern
Host Organization: Shur 
Internship Description: Shur is a public benefit corporation deploying a comprehensive financial services platform designed to help millions of professionals with student loans move from debt to wealth. “Shur powered by Edward Jones”, a service that will be free to the thousands of borrowers who live in St. Louis City and County, was launched in 2025.
Shur is seeking an intern for a media outreach project focused on the St. Louis region, as well as the state of Missouri. The intern will conduct a study of local and statewide media outlets, with emphasis placed on identifying platforms that elevate community voices, promote financial capability, and highlight the unique experiences residents in St. Louis City and County are having with student loan management and repayment. Interns will contribute to the development of a media plan and segmented contact list that will be used as part of the launch of “Shur Powered by Edward Jones” – a free-to-borrow platform that in 2025 will help professionals with student loans succeed in their repayment journey and pathway to wealth building.
NFCC Intern
Host Organization: National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC)
Internship Description: NFCC is in the early stages of building a multilevel financial literacy tool specifically geared towards low-to-moderate-income individuals who are new to the financial market. The tool would first teach important financial skills before unlocking access to different financial products like checking and savings accounts. The internship will focus on research and early planning to help us design the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) — which means the smallest, simplest version of the marketplace we can build to launch it and start helping people. NFCC would make adjustments to improve the product over time.
By the end of the summer, the intern will complete a requirements document – a clear plan that explains what products should be included at the first two levels of the marketplace, how users will move through it, and what financial skills or training they’ll need at each step.
