Federal Student Loan Support
We are sharing an informational update regarding federal student loan repayment options for borrowers and students considering federal loans. While The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis does not recommend federal student loan borrowing, we recognize that some students do utilize federal loans.
On December 9, 2025, the U.S. Department of Education announced a proposed settlement regarding the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) repayment plan, which, if approved by a federal court, would end the plan nationwide. Until this settlement has been approved, no changes are in effect. Borrowers currently enrolled in SAVE remain in their existing repayment status and payment amount. If approved, new enrollment in SAVE would end, and current SAVE borrowers would transition to another federally authorized repayment plan after receiving direct communication from the Department of Education. These federal changes do not affect loans issued by The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, which are interest-free private educational loans and not connected to federal repayment plans.
