Governor Nixon recently proposed to increase funding for Bright Flight Scholarships next year by $15 million. These scholarships are awarded to Missouri students who score in the top three percent in ACT or SAT scores. The goal of this increased funding is to keep talent local, as a requirement of these scholarships is that recipients work in Missouri for each year they accept the funding.
However, the increase to Bright Flight Scholarships prompted concerns about funding for needs-based Access Missouri Scholarships.
Faith Sandler, Executive Director of the Foundation, was interviewed for thoughts on this issue. To access this article and read more about Bright Flight Scholarships, Nixon’s proposal, and Sandler’s remarks on its effect, please click here.
