The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis is seeking an Accountant. This position reports to the Controller and will work to achieve the goals and objectives of the Finance Department by researching, entering and analyzing accounting data and transactions, and preparing reports.


Maintains general ledger

  • Prepares and posts journal entries
  • Assists with preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements

Processes accounts payable and accounts receivable

  • Maintains vendor records and produces 1099s in accordance with IRS guidelines
  • Processes invoices and employee reimbursements for payment
  • Reconciles and codes expenses on organizational credit cards
  • Prepares bank deposits

Prepares account analyses and reconciliations with guidance and review by the Controller

  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations
  • Performs analyses and reconciliations of student accounts receivable balances
  • Reconciles transactions and balances in the donor database with accounts in the general ledger
  • Performs analyses and reconciliations of balance sheet and income statement accounts, as assigned
  • Assists Controller with grant fund and project reporting
  • Reconciles quarterly payroll tax reports

Manages payroll and supports human resources functions, protecting confidentiality

  • Maintains payroll records consistent with regulatory guidelines
  • Obtains and enters payroll information and changes to third party payroll service for review and approval by the Controller

Assists the Controller with budget preparation.

  • Prepares workpapers and schedules for the annual budget process
  • Produces reports of historical results and detailed analysis to support estimates and budget assumptions


  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, as well as internal controls, required
  • Skills in the area of communication, analysis, and organization
  • Attention to detail, proficient data entry, problem solving skills and computer proficiency
