NCAN Blog post outlines how Active Advocacy Coalition began

2/19/2016

On February 3, 2016, the Active Advocacy Coalition, a group of college students, education policy interns, and nonprofit allies, went to Jefferson City to present a white paper showing the inequitable distribution of Bright Flight, Missouri’s merit-based scholarship program. In addition to the report, coalition members presented legislators with individualized district score cards showing the distribution of Bright Flight in each legislative district.

Subsequently, Executive Director Faith Sandler and Karissa Anderson, Manager of Advocacy and Policy Research for The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis and St. Louis Graduates, wrote a guest blog published by National College Access Network (NCAN) discussing the history of the Bright Flight report, the creation of the Active Advocacy Coalition, the events that occurred at the Capitol on February 3rd, and media attention received since the report was presented.
