In an amicus brief filed in Texas v. United States on April 6, The Foundation was listed as one of many “friends of the court” to offer information that may be helpful to the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. This federal brief is in response to legislation that will affect the opportunities of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students and students whose parents would qualify under Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). The Foundation sees higher education as a catalyst that can advance the economic and civic health of societies; access to education is critical to all who have the potential to succeed. The Foundation’s work with DACA students will be affected by the outcome of this case.

The Foundation was invited to sign the brief by Educators for Fair Consideration, joining other organizations concerned about education. The Scholarship Foundation is not a party to this action, nor are the others who have signed.

Additionally, more than 70 cities and counties signed a second friend-of-the-court brief in the Texas vs. United States appeal representing 43 million people nationwide in support of immigration action. St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay is among those who have signed saying:

St. Louis has new workers contributing to our economy, paying taxes, and helping to revitalize neighborhoods who want to know that they can continue to build a life safely in St. Louis. Delaying implementation of the Department of Homeland Security directives puts it all in jeopardy.
