The Clayton Chamber of Commerce honored The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis with its Cornerstone Award at a reception dinner at the Ritz-Carlton on February 9, 2012. The Cornerstone Award recognizes an individual or company whose contributions have had a major impact on the Clayton Community. Other awardees were Michael Neidorff of Centene Corporation for Business Person of the Year and Gladys Manion Real Estate for Excellence in Retail/Service. Scholarship Foundation Executive Director Faith Sandler’s acceptance speech included the following comments:

When you arrived this evening, you were met by a doorman and a concierge. They opened the door for you. They answered your questions. They directed you to this room. You walked here of your own accord, though. They didn’t do it for you. You arrived at the Ritz knowing why you were here. They didn’t decide for you that it would be good for you to be here tonight. You made that decision.

Think of the ScholarShop and The Scholarship Foundation as that doorman and concierge, opening doors and creating opportunity, facilitating, serving as witnesses to the moments when people do for themselves the things that will fundamentally change their lives. Nothing is more powerful.

Thank you to the Clayton Chamber of Commerce for this Cornerstone Award, and to each and every one of you for what you have done and will do to create opportunity for others.
