Action needed by Governor Nixon on HB2003 in support of DACA students
Through St. Louis Graduates, The Scholarship Foundation and St. Louis Regional Chamber have advocated together to improve higher education access for students with significant financial need. These organizations are now enlisting Governor Nixon’s action to signal that titling language in the higher education budget (HB2003) is void and unenforceable. This titling language directs public institutions to charge the highest possible tuition rate to Missourians approved under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), effectively barring these students from earning postsecondary degrees at public colleges in their home state.
Read the letter from the Foundation and Chamber to Governor Nixon requesting that he append a letter to his signing of HB2003 that sends a clear signal that legislating through titling language conflicts with state law.
